That said, there is a walkaround and here, we will be talking about the Downgrade and dual-boot status of almost all iOS devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I understand you&#8217;re interested in downgrading and dual-booting iOS devices. However, it&#8217;s important to acknowledge that this process can be risky and complex. It&#8217;s crucial to understand the potential consequences before proceeding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Security vulnerabilities:<\/strong> Downgrading to unsupported versions exposes your device to known security exploits that newer versions have patched.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data loss:<\/strong> There&#8217;s a chance of data loss during the process, especially if something goes wrong.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Device instability:<\/strong> Downgrading and dual-booting can lead to unexpected behaviour and instability on your device.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Therefore, it&#8217;s strongly recommended to avoid attempting these procedures unless you are an advanced user who fully understands the risks involved.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Downgrade and dual-boot status of almost all iOS devices<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>iOS 17 devices<\/strong> (A12 devices and newer, older A10 iPads)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Devices that fall under here have the latest version 17.x.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delay OTA Guide (updating only): <a href=\"https:\/\/ios.cfw.guide\/updating-blobless\">https:\/\/ios.cfw.guide\/updating-blobless<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restoring to iOS 16 and lower is not possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(A12 devices and newer) You cannot restore to any iOS versions other than signed ones. All SHSH blobs are useless.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For A10 iPads only:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tethered downgrade\/dualboot is an option with <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/edwin170\/downr1n\">downr1n<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/dualra1n\/dualra1n\">dualra1n<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mineek\/seprmvr64\">seprmvr64<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is technically possible to downgrade to iOS 14-15 with blobs. All SHSH blobs for 16.5.x and lower are useless.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tethered downgrade\/dualboot is an option with <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/edwin170\/downr1n\">downr1n<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/dualra1n\/dualra1n\">dualra1n<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mineek\/seprmvr64\">seprmvr64<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is technically possible to downgrade to iOS 14-15 with blobs for all these devices except for iPhone X. For advanced users only. See the guide linked in compatibility chart<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For A9 iPads, check for Limefix compatibility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>iOS 14-15 devices<\/strong> (A9 and A10 devices, iPad Air 2 and mini 4)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Devices that fall under here have the latest iOS version 15.x.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All devices that fall under here are checkm8 devices, they can do pwnDFU restores. See the guide &#8220;Downgrade checkm8 devices&#8221; above.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>*<em>You may restore to iOS 14.x and 15.x only with futurerestore<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For iOS 13 and lower, check for compatibility with Limefix\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As of updating this post, Limefix only supports A9 devices and iOS 10, wait for updates for other devices and versions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For more details about SEP and baseband compatibility, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1Mb1UNm6g3yvdQD67M413GYSaJ4uoNhLgpkc7YKi3LBs\/\">SEP\/BB Compatibility Chart<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For restoring to unsigned versions of 14.x\/15.x with SHSH blobs, you may use <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/Legacy-iOS-Kit\">Legacy iOS Kit<\/a> which utilizes the updated <strong>futurerestore nightly<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tethered downgrade\/dualboot is also an option with <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/edwin170\/downr1n\">downr1n<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/dualra1n\/dualra1n\">dualra1n<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mineek\/seprmvr64\">seprmvr64<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>iOS 12 devices<\/strong> (A7 and A8 devices except iPad Air 2 and mini 4)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Devices that fall under here have the latest iOS version 12.5.7.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can downgrade to as low as 11.3 with futurerestore if you have SHSH blobs &#8211; You can downgrade with SHSH blobs using <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/Legacy-iOS-Kit\">Legacy iOS Kit<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tethered downgrade is also an option with <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mineek\/sunst0rm\">sunst0rm<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limefix is not yet compatible with these devices, wait for updates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A7 devices<\/strong> (iPhone 5S, iPad Air 1, iPad mini 2)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A7 devices (except iPad4,6 and all iPad mini 3 models) can downgrade to 10.3.3 without existing blobs, using <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/Legacy-iOS-Kit\">Legacy iOS Kit<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/rA9stuff\/LeetDown\">LeetDown<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unfortunately checkm8 is very unreliable on Linux, so using macOS may be the better option with iPwnder32\/ipwnder_lite used for better success rates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/Legacy-iOS-Kit\/wiki\/Pwning-Using-Another-iOS-Device\">iPwnder Lite for iOS<\/a> can also be used to put device in pwned DFU<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also downgrade to 10.2-10.3.2 if you have SHSH blobs\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can go as low as 10.1.x but Touch ID will not work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can downgrade with SHSH blobs using <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/Legacy-iOS-Kit\">Legacy iOS Kit<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also downgrade <strong>tethered<\/strong> to iOS 7: <a href=\"https:\/\/ios7.iarchive.app\/\">https:\/\/ios7.iarchive.app<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A5, A5X, A6, and A6X devices<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Devices that fall under here have the latest iOS version 9.3.5, 9.3.6, 10.3.3, or 10.3.4.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can downgrade and jailbreak any of these devices (<strong>except for iPhone 5C<\/strong>) to iOS 8.4.1 using <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/Legacy-iOS-Kit\">Legacy iOS Kit<\/a> without existing blobs\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For iPhone 4S and iPad 2 (except iPad2,4) devices, iOS 6.1.3 is also an option<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can downgrade to any iOS version that you have SHSH blobs for using Legacy iOS Kit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also save on-board SHSH blobs with Legacy iOS Kit&#8217;s &#8220;Save Onboard Blobs&#8221; option<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have iOS 7 SHSH blobs, you can do untethered downgrades using Legacy iOS Kit (powdersn0w)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also dualboot to any version using <a href=\"https:\/\/coolbooter.com\/\">Coolbooter<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can dualboot to iOS 4.3.x using <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Zurac-Apps\/4tify-iPad2\">4tify-iPad2<\/a> (<strong>iPad 2 only<\/strong>, macOS only)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can downgrade <strong>tethered<\/strong> without blobs using <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/Legacy-iOS-Kit\">Legacy iOS Kit<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/synackuk\/n1ghtshade\">n1ghtshade<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/zzanehip\/Deca5\">Deca5<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Both n1ghtshade and Deca5 are for macOS only<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>iPhone 4<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can downgrade to iOS 6, 5, or 4 untethered using <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/Legacy-iOS-Kit\">Legacy iOS Kit<\/a> (powdersn0w)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Only iPhone3,1 (GSM) and iPhone3,3 (CDMA) are supported<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also use Legacy iOS Kit to downgrade with saved SHSH blobs (see above)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also use Legacy iOS Kit to do <strong>tethered<\/strong> downgrades\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Downgrading tethered by going to: Restore\/Downgrade -> Other (Tethered)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do a tethered boot by going to: Other Utilities -> Just Boot<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tethered downgrade IPSWs option is also available in Legacy iOS Kit, see below notes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can dualboot to any version except 4.x using <a href=\"https:\/\/coolbooter.com\/\">Coolbooter<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can dualboot to 4.x using <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Zurac-Apps\/4tify\">4tify<\/a> (macOS only)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>4tify for Linux (untested): <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/4tify-linux\">https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/4tify-linux<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>iPod touch 4th gen<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are no untethered downgrade options without blobs, unfortunately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>iPod touch 4th gen can be tethered upgrade to iOS 7: <a href=\"https:\/\/albyvar.github.io\/ipodtouchhax\/\">https:\/\/albyvar.github.io\/ipodtouchhax\/<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can do <strong>tethered<\/strong> downgrades without blobs using <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/Legacy-iOS-Kit\">Legacy iOS Kit<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Downgrading tethered by going to: Restore\/Downgrade -> Other (Tethered)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do a tethered boot by going to: Other Utilities -> Just Boot<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is also the option to use tethered downgrade IPSWs from these (Restore\/Downgrade -> Other (Custom IPSW)):<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/LegacyJailbreak\/comments\/ji17zv\/discussion_would_you_guys_be_interested_in\/\">https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/LegacyJailbreak\/comments\/ji17zv\/discussion_would_you_guys_be_interested_in\/<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/lychitree\/pr3lude\">https:\/\/github.com\/lychitree\/pr3lude<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/archives.legacyjailbreak.com\/\">https:\/\/archives.legacyjailbreak.com<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPod touch 2nd and 3rd gen<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can also use <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/LukeZGD\/Legacy-iOS-Kit\">Legacy iOS Kit<\/a> to do untethered downgrades to other iOS versions without blobs (or with blobs also)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>iOS 4.1 is signed for the 3GS, touch 2nd gen and 3rd gen, use iTunes or Legacy iOS Kit to downgrade\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Error 1015 will show up at the end of restore for iTunes. You can exit recovery mode using <a href=\"https:\/\/invoxiplaygames.uk\/projects\/recoverymodetool\/\">RecoveryModeTool<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tethered downgrade option is also available in Legacy iOS Kit, see above notes\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For the iPod touch 3rd gen, see tethered custom IPSWs in pr3lude<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For iPod touch 2nd gen (old bootrom model), there is no firmware signing for versions 3.0 and lower can be restored freely. 3.x IPSWs are available here: <a href=\"https:\/\/invoxiplaygames.uk\/ipsw\/\">https:\/\/invoxiplaygames.uk\/ipsw\/<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.legacyjailbreak.com\/\">https:\/\/archives.legacyjailbreak.com<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>iPhone 2G and 3G, iPod touch 1st gen<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AFAIK, there is no firmware signing and they can be restored to any iOS version using older iTunes after placing the device in pwned DFU mode using redsn0w.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legacy iOS Kit also supports these devices, for restoring\/hacktivating to 3.1.3 (also 4.1 and 4.2.1 for iPhone 3G), as well as restoring to any other iOS version\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This makes use of changes from tihmstar&#8217;s idevicerestore fork (iOS 1 and 2 support): <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/tihmstar\/idevicerestore\">https:\/\/github.com\/tihmstar\/idevicerestore<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IPSWs for older iPod touch are available here: <a href=\"https:\/\/invoxiplaygames.uk\/ipsw\/\">https:\/\/invoxiplaygames.uk\/ipsw\/<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.legacyjailbreak.com\/\">https:\/\/archives.legacyjailbreak.com<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Officially, it is not possible to downgrade iOS devices as most older iOS versions are not being signed by Apple.
